Leap of Faith

  • Post category:poetry

I stand at the highest point of the highest cliff.
I know I must go forward, but my legs are stiff.
I look for the other side, but it does not take form.

At the edge of the abyss I resist.
Across my view lays a fate of mist.
The ground supports my feet, solid and warm.

Behind me with outstretched arms, the world will wait.
It welcomes me and holds everything to which I relate.
I can feel it dying in my wake, and so I mourn.

My mind is racing and filling with fear,
Yet the beat of my heart is crystal clear.
For me to grasp the future, the past must be let go.

Surrounded by a world of disharmony,
I am told of the peace I cannot see.
Light is overhead, and emptiness falls below.

I pray to step in the right direction.
I look to a sign for my protection.
I will fall to the bottom or be lifted up by creation.

I leap in uncertainty wiping the tears.
The life I once rejoiced, disappears.
My faith in God is now my own salvation.
